  • PCA, MCAA Pledge Support at Critical Campaign Phase
As our industry moves closer to establishing a national Concrete Masonry Checkoff, two key partners are pledging their support during this vital phase of our campaign. The Portland Cement Association (PCA) and the Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA) are now joining our outreach efforts.

The PCA Board of Directors adopted its support resolution in mid-March according to Mike Ireland, President and CEO of the PCA.

“Our Board of Directors believe that a checkoff program to support promotion efforts for concrete masonry will ultimately increase demand for concrete block,” says Ireland. “Concrete and masonry will both benefit from a more coordinated and better-funded promotional program.”

The MCAA passed a resolution in January 2019 endorsing the upcoming CMU Checkoff referendum. The resolution was passed unanimously and encourages producers to both support and advocate on behalf of the program.

In a recent interview, Paul Odom, Chairman of the MCAA, expressed his view that the checkoff is an opportunity to make real changes in the industry. "It's a chance for our market share to come back. I don't know a single mason that is not for the checkoff program. Most people in our industry know how important this program is."

MCAA has been a longtime supporter of the Checkoff and in the past has called the program a way to "help this industry by enabling it to effectively invest in itself (without government financial assistance), reinvigorate the economy, jump-start the tax base, and expand American jobs."
