Name Chosen: Concrete Masonry Checkoff Board

December 09 2022

We’ve had a busy few weeks as we continue to make progress building out the structure of the Concrete Masonry Checkoff. Our committees have begun to meet and are putting their priorities and plans together with more to come. Just this week, our finance committee worked to put a more detailed budget together, including a forecast for checkoff collections that will be invested in programs.

Our communications committee is developing a strategy for publicizing important details on the timing and protocol for assessments. And next week, we’ll have the first meeting of our programs committee. Their initial priorities include creating a process for program submissions as well as finalizing details on how the Regional Advisory Committees (RACs) will operate and coordinate.

Also worth noting: the Board formally established the name of our organization – the Concrete Masonry Checkoff Board (CMCB).

I also want to remind everyone of a key action taken by the board last month – assessment collections will begin in the 2nd quarter of calendar 2023 that starts on April 1. Producers will have 60 days from the end of Q2 (August 30, 2023) to submit their assessments. You can expect to see more information on the exact quarterly submission process coming soon.

While we’ve only just started, I feel confident in the direction our committees and board are moving, and hope you all feel the same.

Design Escapes
The CMU Checkoff Initiative was created by producers frustrated with continual loss of market share. That frustration was compounded when program ideas surfaced that could drive demand, but there was no way to fund multi-year, well-funded programs that would change outdated perceptions of CMU.
